Under The Surface
Under the Surface is a contemporary painting collection by Alcam (Alex Calatayud Mollà) that investigates what lies beneath appearances. Built through layered paint, gestural marks and deliberate incisions, each canvas becomes a quiet form of excavation. Cuts operate as sincere gestures, revealing hidden textures, structures and emotional residues. What seems calm may hold tension; what appears chaotic often contains a silent internal order.
Shaped by Alcam’s years in Spain, Switzerland and the UK—together with his background in illustration and tattooing—the collection blends technical precision with raw, instinctive expression. Under the Surface invites slow contemplation: its surfaces behave like psychological landscapes where memory, matter and identity overlap, exposing what we show, what we conceal and everything we carry beneath the surface.
